y aún, te quiero

Posted by Mariluz in entre Mar y Tierras on Fri 28/03/2008 at 3:34 PM

Thought for 2008

As we look forward to our new year, it's also a good time to look back, to remember how far we've come and how quickly we are moving into the future. That's why I chose this week's quote from What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848, by Daniel Walker Howe.

We are in the midst of another transformation, not national but global, where information moves around the world at the speed of light. Yet, as Howe mentions in the beginning of his book, "Neither Alexander the Great nor Benjamin Franklin ... two thousand years later knew anything

About Paris - Londres neighbourhood

The Vegas Hotel is located in the famous París-Londres area of Santiago, though located in the busy city, the hotel enjoys a peaceful setting.

The hotel´s history has been very special. In 1554, gobernor Rodrigo De Quiroga gave to Fray Martin De Roble 12 lots to be used by the Franciscans order, and they converted the lots into a religious center next to the Saint Francisco church.

In 1921, santiago became larger, and the order sold these 12 lots to a real state company for development.

Revolutionary Technology in 1517

In 2007, everyone has the power to be a Martin Luther

In his 2006 article, "Changing Media, Changing Politics," University of California professor Samuel Popkin talks about the importance of distribution in stimulating intellectual and political change. He is not referring to the Internet though, but rather to the printing press.

Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg in 1517. In our history classes we are taught that this was the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, but there is a key factor that we aren't taught: distribution. It was not the ideas

The Internet That Was

Posted by Mary in ZapBoom on 21/08/2007 at 15:11

Why do people want to be "on the Internet?" One of the main reasons is simple freedom. The Internet is a rare example of a true, modern, functional anarchy. There is no "Internet Inc." There are no official censors, no bosses, no board of directors, no stockholders.

Today that paragraph, written in 1993, seems naive and ill-informed. There certainly are censors on the Internet. Look at China and Saudi Arabia. While there is no "Internet Inc." the Internet is most certainly a commercial entity with its associated "bosses," "boards of directors" and "stockholders." I am not just talking about the
